Celebrate Jane Austen's 250th birthday with us as we explore the different ways Jane Austen's novels have been adapted into feature-length films since the 1940s.
Over the past 80 years many actors, writers, and directors have approached these classic stories in different ways, some staying faithful to the original story lines and others finding new ways of presenting them to a new generation. Barry Deitz, Library Director of Conant Public Library, will examine these productions and how the world of Jane Austen never loses its fascination as we keep returning to these great novels and finding something new every time.
About the presenter:
Originally from North Carolina, Barry Dietz moved to Massachusetts in 2013. He has served as the director of the Conant Public Library in Winchester since December 2021. Over the years, Barry has worked as a book and film reviewer, radio and television host, and has traveled throughout New England presenting literary programs on topics ranging from the Transcendentalists of Concord to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the Gardens of Emily Dickinson. Most recently, he presented a Halloween program on The Vampire in Art and Literature at Fiddleheads Art Gallery in Northfield, Massachusetts. In North Carolina, Barry hosted the weekly movie review show Meet Me at the Movies on the local cable channel and wrote book and movie reviews for the Shelby Star daily newspaper.

This program is free and open to all. Please note that library parking is not guaranteed. Patrons who are able are encouraged to take advantage of Peterborough’s walkable downtown by parking in the Depot Square or Riverwalk lots.
Peterborough Town Library, located downtown at the corner of Main and Concord/Rt 202, has a large meeting room, study rooms, classroom, and a board room available to the public.
