THINGS TO KNOW:

  • Library card applications require confirmation of residency. Bring a photo ID. We may also accept a utility bill as proof of residency.
  • Children are invited to sign up for their first library card at age 5. Please check out our handout for new children's cards here.

  • Library cards are required at check-out. All cards are individual and non-transferable, and the cardholder must be present to use the card.

  • Patrons may authorize other individuals to pick up books on hold.
  • Students should show their student ID or other verification of enrollment to PES, SMS, Lionheart Academy, or ConVal High.

LIBRARY CARD ELIGIBILITY:

Any Peterborough resident, or non-resident owning a residence in Peterborough, is eligible for a library card membership. Library cards are updated every three years to confirm contact information and eligibility. The following individuals are also eligible for library cards:

  • Students enrolled at any public school located within Peterborough.

  • MacDowell Fellows, while in residence.

  • Visiting artists at Peterborough Players.

  • Any business that owns or rents property in Peterborough may have up to three employee Library cards, with the written permission of the business owner.

NON-RESIDENT CARDS:

Non-residents may purchase one-year library card memberships for the annual fee, as set annually by the Board of Library Trustees.

The fee is set annually by the Board of Library Trustees and is currently $85.00.

The Peterborough Town Library operating budget is funded 100% by the Town of Peterborough. The cost of a non-resident card is established by considering the per-capita cost of library services for Peterborough residents based on the current year's appropriation.
