Position Title: Library Caretaker

Schedule: 16 hours per week, flexible times

Compensation: $25.00 per hour. Pro-rated vacation time. Paid holidays.

 

About the position:

The Peterborough Town Library is hiring a team-member to assist with custodial duties in our facility. We are looking for someone who wants to be part of the library team, get to know our staff and facility, and help us keep the building looking beautiful and maintained. Must be self-motivated, be able to work quickly, maintain weekly and monthly checklists, and have ability to use email. Great opportunity for someone looking for a part-time competitive paying position. Hours are very flexible and adaptable for parents and caregivers. Professional cleaning experience strongly preferred.

Job Duties:

·       Vacuum all high traffic areas including entrances, elevator, stairways, throughways, and meeting rooms.

·       Set any moved furniture back to default placements.

·       Mop high traffic areas as needed with special attention during winter.

·       Deep clean all restrooms including sinks, commodes, floors, walls, changing stations, etc.

·       Check paper products are full in all restrooms.

·       Clean any meeting rooms used for public events.

·       Clean elevator doors and vestibule door windows.

·       Empty all trash and recycling containers. 

·       Wash, spot-clean walls as needed, especially around light switches and high-touch areas.

·       Wash, spot-clean all door handles and doors.

·       Wash all frequently touched surfaces including tables, chairs, help desks, counters, water bubblers, etc.

·       Additional weekly and monthly checklists as needed

 

SKILLS EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Friendly attitude and team-player
  • Knowledge of how to clean a large facility and high-traffic areas.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products and applications for different materials.
  • Organizational skills and prioritization.
  • Email experience
  • Ability to work quickly to complete physical tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and create workflow to hit daily, weekly, and monthly duties.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records.
  • Considerable ability to pay attention to detail.

Position Title: Library Assistant - Youth Services

Schedule: up to 12 hours per week, including Thursday evenings and one Saturday per month

Compensation: $18.00 per hour

 

About the position:

The Peterborough Town Library is seeking a friendly and welcoming library assistant to join our youth services team. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with youth of all ages and have familiarity with children’s literature. Library experience is preferred. Responsibilities include circulating items, making reading suggestions for all ages, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for families. They must also be able to comfortably multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail.

Peterborough Town Library underwent a fabulous renovation in 2021 and enjoys an average of two hundred visits per day. We have a small but mighty staff serving hundreds of families with high circulation of children’s materials and strong attendance at youth programs.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Staffs youth help desk as scheduled. Interacts with library patrons of all ages, answers phone, assists patrons and callers with routine questions and directs them to appropriate departments or staff. Explains routine library policies.
  • Processes new library cards, library checkouts, renewals, returns, holds and registrations, utilizing the integrated library system.
  • Provides quality customer service to patrons and helps with basic reference, reader’s advisory, program recommendations, and community connections.
  • Monitors and maintains orderliness of Children’s Room and collection; collects and moves books and other materials as required.
  • Participates in promoting all library events and services by actively engaging with patrons and referring them to our printed and online resources.
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures and tasks. Ensures all safety procedures are followed and the building is secure.
  • Maintains help desk spreadsheets, attendance records, and other statistics.
  • Stays informed of all events and assists with maintaining rooms, calendars, and staff communication.
