A Family Read-Aloud Podcast Experience!

Here at PTL we are always encouraging families to read aloud together and on that note…
LISTEN FIRST - a podcast hosted by Lisa B. and Aimee is now available!

Listen First encourages families to read aloud and listen together! Each episode features the complete first chapter of an amazing book. Listen to the show and then check out the book or download the audiobook to finish the book. This is a great way to kick-off a family read-aloud or inspire a reluctant reader.

Listen First is now available through Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. You can also listen from the player below!

To create the podcast, the library partnered with Adam Arnone, musician and owner of Echo Finch, to record and edit the audio – thank you Adam!

Episode 1:  The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963

In the summer of 2021 the Peterborough Town Library was trying a new way to encourage families to read aloud together: by giving away books to our local folx that signed up for Summer Reading! Lisa B. and Aimee chose a chapter book about the Watson Family and their road trip from Michigan to Alabama as the suggested read-aloud title for our older families. In the first episode of our podcast Aimee reads the first chapter of The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis.

Episode 2: The Penderwicks

Listen to Aimee and Lisa B. discuss and read the first chapter of The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy by Jeanne Birdsall.

Episode 3:  One Crazy Summer/Becoming Muhammad Ali

Listen to Aimee and Lisa B. discuss two books and read the first chapter of each: One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia, and Becoming Muhammad Ali by James Patterson and Kwame Alexander.

Episode 4:  Toys Go Out/See You Around, Sam!

Listen to Aimee and Lisa B. discuss two books and read the first chapter of each: Toys Go Out: Being the Adventures of a Knowledgeable Stingray, a Toughy Little Buffalo, and Someone Called Plastic by Emily Jenkins, and See You Around, Sam! by Lois Lowry.
